Slasher Manohara Chary Wants His Daughter To Live

Manohara Chary, who attempted to murder his daughter Madhavi and her husband Sandeep yesterday in broad daylight in the busy S R Nagar area, was taken to the Nampally criminal courts complex by the Punjagutta police today.

Speaking to mediapersons in the police van on the way to the court, Chary said, "I did not like my daughter marrying Sandeep secretly without our knowledge. We could have performed her wedding with him if they had revealed their love affair. I brought up my daughter by working very hard. What I did was in a drunken stupor, and I never wanted to kill my daughter or anyone. I want my daughter to live," he said.

For the uninitiated, on Wednesday evening at 4 pm, Madhavi was sitting behind her husband Sandeep on a bike on the busy S R Nagar road when a drunken Chary came from behind on his bike, removed a sickle from his bag and hit out at Sandeep. When he was trying a second swipe, Madhavi pushed her father aside. While Sandeep abandoned the vehicle and took to his heels, the enraged Chary attacked his daughter, too. When the passersby tried to intervene, the accused threatened them with the sickle and slashed his daughter again causing her critical injuries. The entire episode was over in just 30 seconds.

Madhavi is in a critical condition in a hospital, with serious injuries to her neck and her left hand, while Sandeep has escaped with relatively minor injuries.
