CPM senior leader Sitaram Yechury, of Telugu origin, has been elected as the party national general secretary for the second consecutive time.
The party's 22nd National Conference ended today with a public meeting at the Saroor Nagar stadium in Hyderabad. On the occasion, the party re-elected Yechury as general secretary.
The party has set up a Central Committee with 95 members. Thammineni Veerabhadram, Veeraiah, Nagaiah, Cherupally Sitaramulu, P Madhu, V Srinivasa Rao, M A Gafoor and S Punyavathi have been elected as members of the Central Committee from the Telugu states.
Paturi Ramaiah has been elected as a special invitee to the committee.
The party also elected 17 Politburo members.
Speaking on the occasion, Yechury said that there was a need to unite the Left parties to wage movements on behalf of people in the nation. He also vowed to fight against the policies of the RSS and the BJP while uniting all anti-BJP forces.
