As expected, the Central Election Commission on Thursday announced that by-elections to Sircilla and Vemulawada Assembly constituencies will be held along with the 10 other seats on July 27.
The announcement by the CEC was expected from the
moment the state High Court ordered the EC to hold by-elections for the 2 seats simultaneously with the other constituencies.
The High Court had, on Wednesday, accepted the argument of the TRS that the EC has no powers to withhold elections unless the situation on the ground was not conducive for polling to be held peacefully or if general elections are due within a year.
The Election Commission had earlier said that it would not hold the by-elections for the 2 seats, in view of some election petitions pending in the court.
