With Nadendla Manohar taking up office as the Speaker by polling 158 votes, political analysts question the necessity of discussing the no-confidence motion.
With Nadendla Manohar taking up office as the Speaker of the Assembly by winning the votes of 158 members of the Assembly, political analysts question the necessity of discussing the no-confidence motion at this juncture.
The YSR Congress Party was expected to either refrain from voting or vote against the Congress during the Speaker elections, but the party surprised all by voting in favour of Nadendla Manohar. How, then, will Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's group respond to the no-confidence motion is the million dollar question.
Besides the YSR Congress Party, the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) had voted in favour of the Congress.
The election of the Deputy Speaker, too, saw similar results - Congress candidate Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was elected Deputy Speaker with 168 votes polled to him. His opponent, Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, had only 88 votes to his credit.
The Lok Satta Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reported to have stayed away from the voting procedure.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had served yet another notice to the Assembly on Saturday, prior to the commencement of the elections for the position of the Speaker, to reiterate that it was bent on discussing the no-confidence motion.
