Former minister Dr. P Shankar Rao on Thursday demanded that the Congress party include the introduction of separate sub-plans for Backward Classes and minorities in its manifesto for the ensuing general elections.
Speaking to media persons at his residence, Rao said that the introduction of the sub-plans would ensure focused development of BCs and minorities.
He said that the separate sub-plans should be introduced on the lines of the SC/ST Sub-Plan being implemented in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states.
Rao also welcomed the Congress party's manifesto which was released on Wednesday in New Delhi.
He said that the manifesto covered all sections of the society, and that a comprehensive and integrated approach was being adopted by the party to ensure the development of all sections.
However, as mentioned, he wanted that the party also include sub-plan proposals to help the BCs and minorities.
He also asked the Congress party to announce that it would order a probe and take action against former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who indulged in several irregularities at the fag end of his term.
He said that such an announcement would help the Congress party in the upcoming elections.
Admitting that the Congress was weak in the Seemandhra region, he said that the party had a history of making a comeback after facing each rout. (INN)
