Though the Indian Meteorological Department had forecast light-to-moderate rains in Telangana, there had been no rains for the last two days. But on Friday the weather changed suddenly and rains lashed the city in a short but severe spurt.
The IMD clarified that these rains in Hyderabad were not because of cyclone Roanu but because of cumulonimbus clouds.
People faced hardships due to the sudden showers. Trees and hoardings were uprooted at several places due to the gales as mentioned, and vehicles were damaged when hoardings and trees fell on them. Electricity and Internet connections got snapped, and were yet to be restored several hours later. Vehicular traffic stalled at several places on the roads. A water pipe was broken at Banjara Hills and several vehicles were swept away by the water.
