The South Central Railway (SCR) on Friday commissioned the ultra-modern mechanized laundry plant at Secunderabad Railway Station, to undertake the washing of bedrolls and lenin used on the Railways by means of state-of-the art machinery.
The decision to optimize the quality of bedrolls supplied to railway passengers was taken by union minister for railways, Mamata Banerjee.
SCR General Manager M S Jayanth inaugurated the facility, which is the second of its kind on South Central Railway, next to the one commissioned at Kacheguda recently. The mechanized laundry plant is also proposed to be set up at Tirupati shortly.
Currently, the bedrolls are being washed by private contractors, and the quality of washing has been leading to complaints from passengers.
With the introduction of mechanized laundries, the quality of washing of Bedrolls will help provide much cleaner linen on trains, hopes SCR.
The mechanised laundry plant has been commissioned at a cost of Rs. 89.86 lakhs, with a capacity of washing 4,000 bedrolls per day. Most of the equipment of the plant has been imported from USA, Spain and China, among other countries.
