A delegation from the Telugu Desam Party, on Saturday, appealed to governor E S L Narasimhan to direct the state government to scrap the four GOs - GOs MS 30, 31, 1110, 1115 - issued over 2008 and 2009 in connection with the Vadarevu And Nizampatnam Port & Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project.
Ssubmitting a memorandum to the governor at Raj Bhavan, K Yerran Naidu, who led the delegation, complained that there were several irregularities in the allotment of the thousands of acres of land to the promoter of project, Nimmagadda Prasad.
Yerran Naidu appealed to the governor to recommend that the government scrap the project and order that the land be restored to the farmers from whom it was acquired.
Naidu alleged that the VANPIC victims were forced to alienate lands under threats, and that most of them did not receive the complete compensation they were entitled to.
He also appealed to the governor to direct the government to withdraw the cases booked against farmers who had launched agitations re-claiming their lands.
The TDP leader told the media that the governor had responded positively to the delegation's appeal, and that he had assured him that he would direct the government after consulting legal experts over the issue. (INN)
