Causing major relief to Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, quashed a petition filed by two Telangana lawyers accusing him of cheating the people of the Telangana region by changing his stand on the issue of the state's bifurcation.
Delivering its verdict, the apex court observed it would not interfere in politically-influenced matters.
It may be mentioned here that 2 Telangana lawyers had argued that Naidu had won a considerable number of seats in Telangana in the 2009 elections by stating that his party was in favour of Telangana statehood. However, Naidu changed his stand after the 9 December 2009 statement of union Home minister P Chidambaram, which amounts to the betrayal of the people of the region, they argued. (INN)
