APSRTC Losing Rs. 3.4 Crore Per Day: Khan
The APSRTC chief fears that the losses would continue to mount if the Samaikyandhra agitation continues, pushing the loss-making RTC into further crisis.
The Andhra Pradesh Roads Transport Corporation is incurring losses of Rs. 3.4 crore per day due to the ongoing agitation in protest against the bifurcation of the state.
Talking to reporters after meeting Chief Secretary Dr. P K Mohanty at the state Secretariat on Tuesday, RTC managing director and vice-chairman A K Khan said that the RTC has so far suffered a loss of Rs. 98 Crore due to the Samaikyandhra agitation.
He expressed concern that the losses would continue to mount if the agitation continues, pushing the loss-making RTC into further crisis.
He said that nearly 12,000 buses of 123 depots went off the roads after 70,000 RTC employees joined the strike. Also, he said that the 1,000-strong daily fleet of buses to Tirupati has been affected due to the ongoing agitation.
He added that the Corporation was working out alternatives to tide over the crisis. He appealed to RTC employees to call off the strike and resume their duties.
