City girl Saina Nehwal on Tuesday expressed confidence that she can soon become the Number 1 women's badminton player in the world.
Talking to media persons, the world No. 3 said she knows she has to put in more hard work and concentrate on winning the next international events rather than concentrate on the rankings.
She said, "If I can become number 3, then I can become number 1."
Back in the city to a tumultuous welcome after her 3rd straight Super Series Title
win, the Indonesian Open, Saina said she wants to continue her winning form and capture upcoming events.
She credited her hat-trick of wins to her coach Pullela Gopichand by saying that it was his guidance and constant encouragements which enabled her to shrug off her tiredness and carry on winning.
Saina said that she enjoyed all the matches she played in the 3 tournaments though she was tired.
Saina had won the Indian Open Grand Prix at home and followed it up by winning the Singapore Open Super Series Tournament, and the Indonesia Open on Sunday.
The Hyderabadi girl said that her first Super Series victory at the Indonesian Open last year was still special to her as it was her first Super Series title. She added that her recent hat-trick of wins was also special.
With her current form and the backing of not only her coach Gopichand and all the Hyderabadis, but also the country, Saina's dream of becoming the top shuttler in the world is likely to become a reality sooner than later.
