AICC secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, on Sunday, welcomed the resignation of ministers Dharmana Prasad Rao and Sabitha Indira Reddy.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislature Party office after the ministers' resignation was
accepted by Governor E S L Narasimhan, Ponguleti described the ministers' decision as being brave, and said that they had resigned from their posts immediately after allegations were leveled against them. He slammed the opposition parties for targeting the state government on the issue of the "tainted ministers".
The AICC secretary, however, refused to comment on the fate of three other ministers facing similar charges. He also indicated that the government might provide legal assistance to the ministers who resigned from the cabinet after they were named as accused in Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's Disproportionate Assets case.
Ponguleti also condemned the Naxal attack in Chattisgarh, and requested President Pranab Mukherjee to impose President's Rule in the state. (INN)
