The Telangana Congress today announced that former MP Siricilla Rajaiah would be its candidate for the Warangal Lok Sabha by-election to be held on November 21.
Party general secretary Janardhan Trivedi announced this to to mediapersons this afternoon.
He said that the Party had short-listed three names, and that all were former MPs - G Vivek, S Rajaiah and Sarve Satyanarayana. Rajaiah's name was selected in the end.
A local candidate, Rajaiah had lost the last election in 2014 by a margin of 3.96 lakh votes to TRS candidate Kadiam Srihari.
Rajaiah was the Warangal MP during the 2009-2014 term.
Speaking to the media after this at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy appealed to the Left parties, the YSR Congress Party and various peoples' organizations to unite against the "undemocratic and anarchic rule" of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and extend their support to the Congress candidate in the by-election.
Reddy demanded an inquiry into the allegations levelled against KCR, and said that the Congress would take the "corrupt practices" of KCR to the people.
He also said that the by-election was the right forum for the farmers and unemployed youth to teach a fitting lesson to the KCR government.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rajarapu Prathap expressed displeasure against the Party leaders for sending a false report to the High Command though the locals had proposed his name for the Warangal by-election.
Speaking to the media, Prathap said that the TPCC was leaving those who had sacrificed for the Party in the lurch, and asked whether it would give tickets only to moneyed persons.
He said that he would decide his future course of action on Sunday after discussing the issue with his followers.
