The situation at the Rajiv Vidya Mission turned tense for some time on Tuesday, as activists of the Inclusive Education Resource Teacher's Federation staged a protest demanding that their legitimate demands be fulfilled.
The protest was foiled by the police, who stepped in and whisked the slogan-shouting protestors away.
According to IERT president Mohammed Abbas and the vice president S Ramakrishna, the activists had to resort to holding a protest after the RVM authorities ignored their legitimate demands.
One of these demands is that teachers associated with the RVM since the last 13 years should be paid a basic salary of Rs. 13,500 on par with PRC recommendations.
The protestors claimed that their salaries have not been increased on par with the rise in inflation.
They cited the example of Karnataka and other states, in which RVM teachers receive salaries on par with regular teachers.
The IERTF also said that the travel allowance of Rs. 600 is not sufficient.
The protestors also demanded facilities like IPF and ESI, security for their job, and the posting IERT's in mandals of their choice.
