Reiterating that the state government will stand by its promise of farmers' welfare, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy stated that the government has set a target of giving loans to farmers next year, to the tune of Rs. 50,000 crore.
In a letter to the farmers of the state to mark the Sankranti festival, the chief minister said that the government would make all efforts for their welfare.
He said that he had directed officials to make efforts to provide 'loan eligibility cards' to farmers, to help them avail themselves of bank loans.
Kiran Kumar Reddy said the government was making efforts for getting the National Project status awarded for the Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevella projects.
He said the government would construct 43 irrigation projects within 3 years, under the Jalayagnam scheme, and provide waters to 38 lakh hectares in the state.
The government has successfully completed 12 projects, and 20 projects are under various stages of construction, he said.
Under crop loan waivers, the Centre had sanctioned financial aid of Rs. 1,600 crore to the state, from which 32 lakh farmers benefited, he added.
The CM also called upon farmers to not commit suicides.
