Minister for ST Welfare Satyavathi Rathod today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each of the persons who died in rain-related incidents in Mulugu district.
Rs 25,000 would be given to those whose properties had been damaged due to the rains, she also said.
Speaking to the media, the minister said that so far eight people had been killed and huge numbers of properties had been damaged in the Mulugu district which received unprecedented rainfall.
"It is for the first time that Mulugu district has received over 70 centimetres of rainfall. The State government has initiated all possible relief measures to avoid further loss of life, and the district administration is providing relief to the people affected by rains and floods on a war footing," she said.
The minister said that the district administration had set up 27 rehabilitation centres at various places where over 1,000 people were taking shelter, and that the authorities were providing food and other facilities to the displaced people.
She further said that officials had been directed to close those damaged roads and bridges which were on the verge of collapsing due to the heavy rains immediately, and to take up repair works on a war footing.
She also requested the people living in the catchment areas to be alert as the river Godavari was receiving heavy inflow of flood waters.
Over 18 lakh cusecs of water was being discharged at the Ramanna Gudem pushkar ghat near Eturu Nagaram, and a second alert warning had been issued at the pushkar ghat, she added.
