Rs 20-a-kg Onion Stalls Opened In Rythu Bazaars
Minister T Harish Rao said 260 tons of onions were being made available in the state at Rs. 20 per kilogram, and that each family could get two kgs initially.
Appealing to the people not to panic over the rising prices of onions, Telangana minister T Harish Rao said that 260 tons of onions were being made available in the state at Rs. 20 per kilogram, including 100 tons in twin cities, and that each family could get two kilograms initially.
Stating that dedicated onion kiosks were being opened in the Rythu Bazars in Telangana, Rao himself sold onions at Rs 20 per kg to some people after opening a subsidized onion stall at the Kothapet Rythu Bazar and another later at the L B Nagar market.
These centers would sell a kilogram for only Rs 20, he said.
Rao mentioned that the officials had been asked ensure good quality of the onions bought to be distributed at this price. He also appealed to the people not to be in a hurry to buy as there were enough stocks.
Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali also opened a subsidized onion centre near Falaknuma Palace, and sold onions at Rs 20 a kg to locals.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Ali said that the Telangana government had adequate stocks of onions to distribute among the people at the subsidized rates.
Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, MLAs R Krishnaiah and Teegala Krishna Reddy, local leader Ramu Goud and others were present. (NSS)
