Despite financial constraints, the Telangana government today released Rs 1,225.43 crore for the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme, which provides financial assistance for the weddings of girls from backward classes and economically weaker sections.
This amount is the first installment of the total budget of Rs 2,175 crore allocated for the scheme in the 2024-25 financial year. The remaining Rs 984.70 crore will be released in the next instalment.
The scheme offers financial aid of Rs 1,00,116 to girls from these communities for their weddings.
The government has already sanctioned Rs 649.86 crore for approved applications, with Rs 240.73 crore already spent.
A total of 65,026 applications have been received for the scheme, with 33,558 applications submitted this year alone. Out of these, 28,225 applications are pending at the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) level, while 12,555 applications are pending at the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) level. 208 applications have been rejected for various reasons.
Telangana BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed satisfaction with the release of funds, and thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka for their support.
