A program organised for the distribution of cheques to the beneficiaries of Telangana's Kalyana Lakshmi welfare scheme at Huzurabad's Illandakunta mandal was today disrupted when a skirmish broke out between the leaders present for the same.
The ceremony was being held under the supervision of the Karimnagar Zilla Parishad chairperson K Vijaya and Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravi Sankar.
At the gathering, it was clear that the public representatives of the ruling party, the TRS, were divided into two camps - while some extended their support to former minister and BJP leader Etala Rajender, others condemned him for his "anti-TRS" rhetoric, and extended their support to their party. The tense atmosphere soon escalated into a confrontation between the two camps.
During the distribution, a supporter of Rajender, Pavani, raised questions about why ZP official K Vijaya was presiding over the event, and asked the authorities as to why she had been allowed to do so. This is what sparked the conflict between the groups.
However, the officials present at the meeting pacified the two clashing camps.
Even after this, though, the distribution did not proceed smoothly since the beneficiaries raised slogans demanding the distribution of the cheques without any politics. This forced the Huzurabad RDO to intervene.
Finally, a total of 189 Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques were handed over to the eligible beneficiaries.
