Telangana Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy today played host to a huge gathering of newly-weds.
According to reports, the minister, who could not attend 421 marriages performed in Wanaparthy district in recent times due to various conflicting engagements, including the ongoing Budget session, decided to host the feast for all the newly-weds at his residence.
At the feast, he distributed Kalyana Lakshmi cheques to them and wished them well on the happy occasion. He also encouraged them to utilise the many other welfare schemes being implemented by the state to live happy lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had introduced the marriage scheme for the welfare of the poor families of the state, and praised the initiative for helping them organise marriages for their daughters without facing added financial pressures.
The Telangana government had launched the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes shortly after coming to power, in October 2014, to provide monetary support to poor households for the marriages of their daughters. It has since pumped in huge funds to implement the same. In this year's Budget too, Rs 2,750 crore was allocated to the two schemes. Further, Rs 500 crore was allocated to the Kalyan Lakshmi scheme for OBCs.
