Rohith Vemula's mother Radhika Vemula met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today and pleaded with him that justice be done to her family.
Rohith Vemula, a student of the Hyderabad Central University, committed suicide in 2016. The reason was widely given by his co-students and activists as caste discrimination (Rohith Vemula was then believed to be a dalit). Later, the police submitted their probe report to the court stating that he was not a dalit, and had taken the extreme step fearing that his original caste (the police claim he belongs to OBCs) would be discovered.
Radhika Vemula urged the Chief Minister to have reviewed once again the investigation report given by the police on the caste of her family.
She alleged that the previous government had misled the investigation process and closed the case.
"My son is a dalit, but the police gave a false report on his caste," Radhika Vemula said.
The Chief Minister told the mother that the government was already clear on the matter, and promised that justice would be done to the family.
