The Kachiguda railway station in Hyderabad was witness to a major robbery today - cash amounting to about Rs. 21 lakhs was found stolen from there.
Collections from bookings made over the weekend - from Friday afternoon to Sunday - were lying in a suitcase in the bookings office of the railway station. The suitcase was found missing by an employee who was to deposit the money in the bank.
The police have said that investigations are on, and that relevant enquiries were made in the premises. A gang from Tamil Nadu is being suspected to have carried out the heist.
The Kachiguda railway station was built in 1916 by the Nizam, and is now the Headquarter station of the Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway.
