The Telangana Congress organized party President Sonia Gandhi's birthday celebrations across the state on a grand note on Saturday.
However, the one person who stole the day was new entrant to the party A Revanth Reddy.
Reddy, followed by a huge procession, entered Gandhi Bhavan - the party headquarters in Hyderabad - for the first time in the capacity of a Congress leader after shifting base from the TDP. He was accorded a warm welcome by the party seniors.
Gandhi Bhavan remained abuzz with activity all day long. TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy inaugurated a free medical camp organized by the women Congress wing.
Congress members cut cakes and distributed sweets in all the districts of Telangana. They also performed special poojas in temples, conducted anna danam programs, and distributed fruits, milk and clothes at old-age homes.
The day however did not pass off peacefully as some Congress members were arrested and shifted to the Nallakunta police station for staging a protest against the municipal officials who had objected to the birthday celebrations in Amberpet.
