BRS leader Dr Sravan Dasoju today wrote an open letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accusing the latter of incompetence in governance.
Though it was a positive step that, after intervention by the Telangana High Court, the government had decided to conduct surveys on lakes before taking action, it was unfortunate that this realization had come too late for many people, he said.
Dasoju asked why this consideration wasn't shown before demolishing people's homes through HYDRA. The destruction of houses by Reddy without any survey was a grave error, and the CM was accountable for the sufferings of the residents who had lost their homes, he said. Who would deliver justice to the family of Buchamma from Kukatpally who allegedly took her own life due to the fear and distress caused by the demolitions, he asked, and said that despite attempts by Reddy to escape responsibility, he remained a criminal in the people's court for the injustices caused by his reckless actions.
Demolishing homes, disregarding people's rights and ignoring the pleas of the common man were unacceptable in a democratic society, he said. He said that even Congress leaders like the late Indira Gandhi had prioritized fundamental needs like food, clothing and shelter, but that Revanth Reddy had turned Telangana into a State run by bulldozers, much like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Dasoju also said that Revanth Reddy was guilty of double standards - while sparing the affluent, he targeted the poor and the middle-class families by demolishing their homes without prior notice, demonstrating an anti-people attitude, he said.
Dasoju demanded that Reddy provide compensation to all those who had lost their homes and properties during the demolitions, according to the 2013 Land Acquisition Act introduced by the UPA government. He said that if Reddy truly regretted his mistakes, he should acknowledge them and compensate those affected by his actions. Power was not permanent but the impact one created on people's lives was, he said, and urged Reddy to act with humanity and rectify his mistakes with sincerity and a sense of duty.
He also demanded that the CM ensure a detailed survey of each lake's catchment area, buffer zone and full-tank level using advanced technologies like satellite imagery, LiDAR and drones.
Dasoju also sought a transparent policy for lake restoration and beautification in consultation with experts, public representatives and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and demanded that the government establish committees involving local representatives and RWAs to ensure the long-term protection and maintenance of lakes, holding them accountable for their preservation.
