Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Working President A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday dared his TRS counterpart K T Rama Rao to contest against him for the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming 2019 general elections.
Reddy alleged that the ruling party was trying to field realtors and brokers against him in the constituency, but that he would win the seat with by a majority of over two lakh votes.
Addressing party workers in L B Nagar, the ever-voluble Reddy held forth on a lot of other issues, too. He criticized Congress MLA P Sabitha Indra Reddy for deciding to join the TRS despite the Congress having done a lot for her family. He also slammed another Congress MLA D Sudheer Reddy for deserting the party after enjoying the benefits while it was in power. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was trying to decimate all the opposition parties in the State. However, five Pandavas in the Mahabharatha had massacred 100 wicked Kauravas in the Kurukshetra war and established the rule of law, and so also the Congress party would triumph in the upcoming elections, he claimed.
Reddy also alleged that the State government was foisting cases against him as he was talking about public problems, and exhorted the party workers to work hard and ensure his victory in the constituency.
Earlier, Reddy also sought the support of Secunderabad Cantonment BJP leader Ganesh and urged him to work for his (Reddy's) victory. Ganesh had previously joined the BJP after feeling insulted in the Congress. Reddy went to Ganesh's house and enquired about the reasons behind his decision to quit the party. He also asked Ganesh to join the Congress and assured total support to him in the constituency. The BJP leader said that he would take a call on the issue after holding discussions with his supporters.
