The celebrations for India's 72nd Republic Day were on in full swing across the country today.
In Telangana too, many events were organised to mark the occasion.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao unfurled the tricolour in a program at his camp office, Pragathi Bhavan, and paid rich tributes to the nationalist leaders who had sacrificed their lives for the country during its struggle against the British, and to the soldiers killed while defending it from various external aggressors.
Lauding their "unparalleled and selfless service" to India, he offered flowers to their portraits.
The CM also extended his wishes to the people of Telangana, and said that he hoped that the year would bring all-round development for the state.
Government Advisors MLC Sheri Subhash Reddy and Rajiv Sharma, MP Joginapalli Santosh Kumar and Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashant Reddy were among the officials who attended the program.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also participated in a Republic Day celebration held at the Public Gardens in Nampally.
The program was kicked off with her hoisting the national flag, and then receiving a guard of honour.
In her address, Soundararajan said that Telangana had made its mark as a state by implementing a plethora of "innovative, unique and people-oriented" welfare schemes and programs.
She said that the state had carved a niche for itself in the country by performing well in various sectors due to the "systematic and consistent" efforts of the TRS government.
Elsewhere in the city, the Telangana government's official Republic Day festivities were also organised on a grand scale.
Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy and Legislative Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy hoisted the tricolour on the Assembly premises during the event.
The officials then paid their respects to the freedom fighters who had fought for the independence of the country.
Later, they paid their respects to Ambedkar and Gandhi by offering flowers to the statues of the two leaders at the Assembly lawns.
Several MLAs and MLCs were also present for the program.
Meanwhile, amidst the escalating tensions between the Centre and the farmers on the issue of the implementation of the new farm Acts, the Telangana High Court had, yesterday, directed the Rachakonda Commissioner of Police, Mahesh Bhagavat, to grant permission to the Telangana Rashtra Rythu Sangam to hold a farmers' parade on Republic Day.
