In a surprise move, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on Sunday, called on Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdary, at the latter's residence in Banjara Hills.
Renuka Chowdary, however, described the visit, which lasted for about one-and-a-half hour, as a courtesy call. She claimed that they did not discuss politics during the meeting.
However, talking to reporters later, Renuka Chowdary slammed the 8 MPs from the Telangana region for questioning her stand on the statehood issue. She said that she did not need a certification from anyone on her association with the Telangana region.
She asked the MPs what they were doing when over 700 students and youth from the region committed suicides for the statehood cause.
She said that she was elected to the Rajya Sabha only recently, while the leaders who are now criticising her have been members of the Lok Sabha when students were resorting to the extreme steps.
Renuka Chowdary asked the MPs to not forget the fact that they were elected on the Congress ticket, and that they must refrain from targeting leaders of their own party. She said that she was not bound to respond to the allegations being leveled against her by the MPs.
The Rajya Sabha MP opined that the CM and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana were performing well. Renuka Chowdary ruled out the possibility of the removal of Kiran Kumar Reddy as the Chief Minister after the by-elections. She said that those making such demands must first learn discipline and then level allegations against the CM.
She also denied reports that the party was having trouble finding suitable candidates for the by-elections. She said that several suitable candidates were queueing up to get a Congress ticket. She said that she, too, was ready to contest the by-polls, and that she would do so if the party High Command directs her to. (INN)
