Telugu Desam Party MLA Linga Reddy demanded urgent government action, on Monday, to solve the problems of Rayalaseema farmers, who are facing hardships due to the shortage of fertilizers.
Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, Linga Reddy said that government had not taken any concrete steps to solve the problem in the region, even after a farmer committed suicide due to a shortage of fertilizer.
Reddy also said that the farmers of the State were not being benefitted by the various schemes introduced by the Central government, and that the Rs. 1,60,000 crores subsidy on fertilizers and seeds is not reaching its ultimate target, the farmer.
Reddy alleged that Kadapa Mayor Ravindar Nath Reddy has earned about Rs. 100 crores from his fertilizer mixing plants that include Balaji, Haritha and Maheswari.
Reddy said that the Kadapa Mayor has permission to produce about 6,80,000 tons of fertilizers from the plants he owns. He accused Ravinder Nath Reddy of producing more than double this quantity.
Reddy added that to sell this additional quantity, an artificial scarcity of the fertilizers was being created.
When asked to express his views on the Telangana lawyers protest and the government's subsequent agreement to the demands of a 42% quota in Judiciary posts, Reddy, who is himself an advocate, replied that it was the first time that he had agreed to the words of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, that that one who takes birth in the region would have the right to hold government jobs there.
