The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is likely to release new Rs. 100 currency note series into the open market.
According to information received, the new series will resemble that of the 2005 Mahatma Gandhi series and will have the letter R and Governor Urjit Patel's signature near the portion where the serial numbers are written.
Behind the Rs. 100 note, the year of printing "2017" will be found, while numerals in ascending order will be found on number panels. The new notes will hit banks and ATMs soon.
However, the existing old notes of Rs. 100 denomination will remain legal tender and can be used as usual. The new notes, upon release, will apparently help people overcome the shortage of change and small notes.
