The State government today issued a circular permitting all the government employees of Telangana belonging to Islam, including teachers and out-sourced employees working in government offices, to leave their offices/schools at 4 pm on all working days during the holy month of Ramzan - i. e. from June 6 or 7 subject to the sighting of the Moon till July 5 - to perform the necessary religious rituals, except when their presence was required due to exigencies during the said period.
Greater Hyderabad has about 20 lakh Muslims, and they comprise over 27% of the approximately 70-lakh population. There are about 45 lakhs Muslims in Telangana, and they comprise nearly 13% of Telangana's population of 3.5 crores.
