A red alert has been issued for the entire State of Telangana for August 13 and 14 in view of imminent heavy rains.
Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Director K Nagaratna today said that a red alert had been issued for the entire State of Telangana for Wednesday and Thursday (August 13 and 14) in view of the imminent heavy rains.
She said that a red alert had been issued for Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalapally and Mulugu districts; an orange alert for Hyderabad, Hanumakonda, Adilabad, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Kumuram Bheem-Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Siddipet and Warangal districts; and a yellow alert for Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli and Karimnagar districts.
Nagaratna said that heavy to very heavy rains were likely in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts during August 14 and 15, and that rainfall was expected across the State on the 14th too. Medak, Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts could witness very heavy rain on the 13th, she said.
The intensity of rainfall would be high in North Telangana districts, and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph were expected across the State for the next five days, she said. Heavy rain was also possible in North Telangana on August 17, she added.
A low-pressure area had formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, which was likely to bring heavy rains to Telangana for the next four days, she said.
