The Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway has detected 909 cases of activities affecting cleanliness and hygiene of railway premises in the last 10 days.
To this effect, a total amount of Rs. 1,87,650 has been collected as penalty under the Indian Railways (Penalties For Activities Affecting Cleanliness At Railway Premises) Rules 2012.
As per the rule, persons indulging in any activity that affects the cleanliness and hygiene of railway premises negatively, are liable to a fine of up to Rs. 500.
In order to generate awareness about this rule, pamphlets and posters have been put up in the stations. Also, the closed circuit TVs installed in the station premises have been put to use for this purpose.
Acts which might seem trivial - like littering the station premises - can lead to the imposition of fines on the persons responsible for these acts.
Railway officials are taking all possible measures to keep railway premises clean, by penalizing those caught indulging in activities such as littering, spitting, urinating, defecating, pasting posters etc. (INN)
