Peddapalli MP G Vivek on Friday claimed that Congress MPs from the Telangana region have given party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi a deadline over the statehood issue.
Talking to reporters, Vivek said that the MPs have discussed the statehood demand during their hour-long meeting with Rahul Gandhi in the national capital on Thursday.
Union Health Minister and in-charge of AP Congress affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, too, held separate meetings with the MPs to discuss the issue.
These meetings gain significance in wake of the 48-hour sit-in by Telangana MPs at Parliament, which has caused embarrassment to the Congress as BJP leaders had poked fun at the High Command.
Vivek said that Rahul assured the MPs that he would hold a separate meeting with the Telangana MPs in near future. (INN)
