Syed Vicaruddin, editor of the century-old Urdu newspaper Rehnuma-e-Deccan, died on Thursday (December 9) night after a prolonged illness.
He was 82 years old.
Vicaruddin was reputed to be a distinguished man of international prominence and progressive thinking who always stood by the causes he believed in.
His demise is considered to be a loss to issue-based journalism, particularly the Urdu media.
Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and senior Congress leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao were among the prominent people who expressed their condolences to the family of Syed Vicaruddin.
The Indian Journalists Union also paid floral tributes to the departed soul. IJU president K Sreenivas Reddy and secretary Y Narender Reddy, and K Virahath Ali, general secretary of the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists, were among those who condoled the death of Vicaruddin.
