Maulana Azad National Urdu University's Haroon Khan Sherwani Centre For Deccan Studies is organizing the staging of a play titled "Quli: Dilon Ka Shahzada", on 13 February at 7pm, at the open air auditorium in the MANUU campus.
According to Dr. Salma Ahmed Farooqui, the honorary director, the play will be performed by theatre personality Mohammad Ali Baig and his theatre group.
The Urdu play is based on the love legend of the founder of Hyderabad, poet-prince Mohammad Quli Qutub Shah, and his beloved, Bhagmati. It showcases the heritage of Hyderabad and its "ganga-jamuni" tehzeeb. It also has live qawwali on stage.
The play was invited to several international festivals, including the Footsbarns Festival, Herisson in Europe, the NCPA's (National Centre for Performing Arts) Theatre Festival in Mumbai and the Nehru Centre Theatre Festival. It will also be staged at Mumbai's Kala Ghoda Festival. (INN)
