The leaders of the Progressive Recognised Teachers Union - Telangana State (PRTU-TS) today submitted a memorandum to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao when they called on the leader at the Pragathi Bhavan.
In the memorandum, they requested him to look into the problems being faced by the teachers of the state and to solve the same.
Their demands reportedly include the complete division of cadre based on the newly formed districts, the awarding of promotions, and acceptance of transfer applications.
The body's representatives also requested the CM to issue instructions to postpone, temporarily, the re-opening of the schools, scheduled for July 1, due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation.
They said that it would be wiser to continue with online classes instead.
Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, MLCs K Janardhan Reddy and K Raghotham Reddy, PRTU TS state President P Sripal Reddy and General Secretary B Kamalakar Rao were among those who were there for the meeting.
After the meeting, some PRTU-TS members claimed that KCR had responded positively to their requests, and had agreed to push back the reopening of the schools in the state.
If the government does indeed agree to postpone the commencement of onsite classes, parents of students in the state will be left greatly relieved as many had been feeling sceptical about sending their wards back to school amidst the pandemic.
