The executive meeting of the Praja Rajyam Party, on Tuesday, has okayed the proposed electoral alliance with the Congress party for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
The meeting, held at the residence of PRP president K Chiranjeevi, dealt with the proposal of the Congress party to seek the PRP's support for Congress candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections. The executive meeting discussed what the party stands to gain from the electoral alliance. According to party sources, the Congress will support the PRP in future elections to Municipalities in the state.
The PRP chief had called for the meeting after being offered an alliance by Congress party president Sonia Gandhi for the Rajya Sabha polls. The party had earlier created a flutter in political circles by announcing that it would contest the Rajya Sabha seats for which elections are due, despite not having the required strength.
