All the 174 MLAs of Andhra Pradesh cast their votes when polling took place for the Presidential elections today (the MPs vote in Delhi).
The polling ended at 2 pm itself, much before the closing time. As all the members had cast their votes, Returning Officer Satyanarayana declared that the polling was complete.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was the first to cast his vote when polling started in the Assembly central hall at 10 am, and was followed by the Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao and Leader Of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. After the ruling Telugu Desam Party MLAs cast their votes, the opposition YSR Congress Party MLAs exercised their franchise. The YSRCP members, including Jaganmohan Reddy, arrived at the Secretariat in a bus to cast their votes.
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly has 175 MLAs, and the Nandyal seat is currently vacant.
It may be mentioned that both the ruling TDP and the opposition YSRCP hade declared their full support for the NDA Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind.
