The President Pratibha Patil had addressed a joint sitting of the Parliament to open its Budget session, in which she had mentioned several issues affecting the country, but made no mention of Telangana. In response to what is seen as a slight to the Telangana cause, Telangana MPs staged a silent protest in the House using placards.
Pro-Telangana Congress MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy said though they as politicians were assured of the government’s readiness on Telangana, the people had to be given confidence on the matter.
Telangana Congress MPs also met the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. They told the media that they conveyed to the PM that the people of Telangana strongly wanted the separate state. They have also expressed their confidence that the Centre will take steps conducive to their aspirations.
