The State today once again registered its highest ever power demand since its formation.
According to officials, Telangana recorded a peak power demand of 15,497 MW at 11:01 am, which is the highest recorded so far. The previous highest was 15,062 MW on March 15, after which the demand came down drastically due to rain.
The highest power consumption in March last year was 14,160 MW.
Officials are expecting the peak power demand to touch 16,000 MW this summer. They said that an important contributor to the rising demand is the power consumption of the agriculture sector going up from 35% to 37% this season due to the area of crop cultivation in the State increasing significantly, and that that has added to the already growing demand from some industries.
