Telangana Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy today attended as chief guest an event at which Pokabathini Anitha, the newly elected Chairperson of Yedulapuram municipality, assumed charge at the municipal office in Peddathanda.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Politics end once elections are over. After being elected, representatives must serve the people on behalf of the government. A leadership position signifies not authority but accountability. It is crucial for leaders to regularly engage with the public instead of remaining confined to their offices. Each councillor should visit their respective wards five days a week for at least two hours every morning. Not all tasks require financial resources; the efficiency of officers and staff will improve significantly only when leaders diligently fulfill their responsibilities."
He also said that the effectiveness of governance depended on the active involvement of elected representatives among the people. He also referred to the trust placed in Congress candidates by the electorate in the recently held municipal elections.
The minister pledged to develop the Yedulapuram municipality into a model for Telangana. He directed officials to take immediate steps to resolve drinking water issues, prevent sewage stagnation and address encroachments on drains.
Reddy also said that he would conduct a review after fifteen days, by which time councillors were expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues in their respective wards.
Later, the minister attended the housewarming ceremony of a beneficiary under the Indiramma housing scheme in Satyanarayanapuram. He congratulated the family on their new home and presented them with silk garments as a gesture of goodwill.
