Graduates & Teachers Cast Votes
CEO Bhanwar Lal stated that polling percentage recorded for graduates' & teachers' constituencies was 46.73% and 77% respectively. Votes to be counted on Tuesday.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal stated that the polling percentage for the graduates' and teachers' constituencies stood at 46.73% and 77% respectively, for 3 seats each from the graduates' and teachers' constituencies spread across 12 districts in the state on Sunday.
Talking to media persons, Bhanwar Lal revealed that the counting of the votes would be held on Tuesday, and that the results would be announced on the same day.
Bhanwar Lal said that the percentage of polling reported in Srikakulam-Visakhapatnam-Vizianagarm, Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor and Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool graduates' constituencies stood at 47.23%, 52.77% and 39.6% respectively.
In a setback to the Congress party in Anantapur district, former minister J C Diwakar Reddy's group, consisting of 60 MPTC and ZPTC members, boycotted the MLC polling. The efforts made by Patil Venugopalareddy to convince the group to refrain from boycotting the polling did not yield proper results.
A total of 1,683 polling stations were set up - 1,093 for graduates' and 590 for teachers' constituencies.
A total of 44 candidates were in the fray for the 3 graduates' constituencies – 19 from Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam, 11 from Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool and 14 from Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor, with a total voter strength of 5,44,255.
As many as 27 candidates - 9 from Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool, 7 from Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor and 11 from Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad - were in the race for the 3 teachers’ seats.
