Leave For State, Central Employees For MLC Elections On March 13

In connection with the election for the Mahabubnagar - Ranga Reddy - Hyderabad teachers' constituency seat in the the Telangana Legislative Council in Hyderabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahbubnagar, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Narayanpet, Nagarkurnool, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad and Wanaparthy which will be held on March 13 from 8 am to 4 pm, the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, has issued instructions for the grant of Special Casual Leave on the day of polling to the Central and State government employees who are eligible to vote, to enable them to exercise their right of franchise.

However, with regard to the employees of private establishments, there is no provision under the Representation of People Act, 1951, to declare a general holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act for elections to the Legislative Council. Therefore, the managements of all the private schools/colleges/universities in the State have been requested to grant the necessary permissions to their employees/workers who are registered voters in the constituency to attend office/duty late or for fewer hours on March 13 to enable them to exercise their right to vote.
