A man, identified as Moinuddin, today attempted to commit suicide at Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's camp office, the Pragathi Bhavan located near Hyderabad's Begumpet area.
The man, a native of Medak's Chinna Shankarampet village, stirred up quite the kerfuffle when he tried to immolate himself by pouring petrol on his body while a Cabinet meeting was being held on the premises.
He was reportedly driven to taking this extreme step as his lands had allegedly been illegally grabbed. He claimed that he had been trying to meet with local revenue officials and other law enforcement officials to seek justice but had failed to get any help from them.
The man then demanded that the state government intervene in the matter to ensure that he got his lands back.
However, police officials and the security present at the camp office were able to foil Moinuddin's suicide attempt. He was taken into custody and later shifted to the Panjagutta police station.
The CM's camp office seems to have become a popular spot for those attempting to commit suicide - last month, too,
two brothers from Hyderabad had tried to take their own lives right outside the Pragathi Bhavan.
On being questioned about why they had tried to take such a drastic step, the duo, identified by the police as Suresh Kumar and Narsing Rao, had alleged that they had been driven to suicide as a result of the harassment of the Pet Basheerabad CI.
