The High Court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to provide police protection for the release and screening of Ram Charan Teja's new bilingual movie (titled "Thoofan" in Telugu and "Zanjeer" in Hindi).
Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, the producers of the movie, had appealed to the High Court for protection, to ensure the peaceful releasing and screening of the movie.
This step was taken in the wake of Seemandhra agitators' warnings that they would stall the screening of the movie if Union Textiles Minister K Chiranjeevi does not resign in support of Samaikyandhra.
Chiranjeevi's son, Ram Charan, is the lead actor in the film, while Priyanka Chopra will be seen as the female lead.
Zanjeer is the remake of a 1973 movie of the same name, with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. Ram Charan is making his foray into Bollywood with this movie.
Earlier, there were rumours that the producers had decided to postpone the movie's release date. However, they decided to try appealing to the High Court for protection. In the petition, they mentioned that some miscreants had threatened to disrupt the screening of the film. (INN)
