Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada reverberated on Monday with the slogans "Special Status, Andhraites' Right".
The "Special Status, Bifurcation Rights Achievements Samithi" organised a "Chalo Assembly" program demanding that the Centre accord Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. The Left parties, YSR Congress Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Lok Satta and several students unions extended their support to the program.
The police detained the agitators, who started as a rally from the city's Dharna Chowk to the AP Assembly.
Speaking on the occasion, CPM state executive committee member Baburao stated that they would continue their fight till the assurances given in the AP bifurcation act were fulfilled.
