Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will formally lay the foundation stone for the BHEL-NTPC joint venture at Mannavaram in Chittoor, on 1 September.
The Prime Minister's schedule has been finalized after being postponed many times due to various reasons.
Singh will visit Tirumala on the morning of 1 September and offer special puja to the Lord, before proceeding to Mannavaram.
He would then lay the foundation stone for the BHEL-NTPC joint venture project being set up to manufacture electrical equipment.
The state government had allotted 750 acres of land at Mannavaram for the project, at a nominal price of Rs. 100 per acre, as it would provide direct employment to 6,000 besides indirect employment to over 25,000 people.
The NTPC-BHEL project would be much bigger than the 3-decade-old Ramachandrapuram unit of BHEL, which has only 200 ancillaries offering employment to about 5,500. The Mannavaram project would enable the setting up of over 400 ancillary units.
The first phase of the NTPC-BHEL project is expected to be ready by 2011-12 and the second phase by 2013-14.
Earlier, the Chief Minister K Rosaiah conducted a review meeting with officials over the arrangements, for the PM's visit.
