Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Badminton player P V Sindhu for her first Super Series title in China Open.
"Congratulations to P V Sindhu for her first super series title in the China Open. Well played," the Prime Minister tweeted.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also congratulated the Indian shuttler and wished her success for all future tournaments as well.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also hailed Sindhu's victory. "All Indians, especially Telugus, are proud of her victory in China," he added.
In a pulsating final played in China's Fuzhou, Sindhu clinched her maiden Super Series Premier title after edging out Sun Yu in the final of the USD 700,000 China Open Badminton Tournament.
The seventh-seed defeated Sun Yu 21-11, 17-12, 21-11 in a gruelling summit clash that lasted 69 minutes. This was the third straight-year that an Indian woman made it to the China Open singles final. Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal won the title in 2014, and finished runner-up in the 2015 edition of the event.
