The Lok Satta Party on Saturday sought urgent intervention by the centre into the Babli dispute, and urged it to assume responsibility for the resolution of inter-state river water disputes and water distribution among states through an appropriate Constitutional amendment.
Talking to media persons, Lok Satta Party leaders Katari Srinivasa Rao and Lenkala Raja Reddy said such intervention was necessary to ward off a threat to national unity and integrity.
They described the arrest of TDP Leaders, including former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and a Lok Satta party leader, by the Maharashtra police under the pretext of pre-empting law and order problems, as untenable.
"Preventing a fact-finding team from visiting Babli and other projects under construction in Maharashtra was unwarranted. As fellow Indians, even Maharashtra people should know the facts on these projects," the party leaders said.
