Tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus when fans of Jana Sena chief and Tollywood star Pawan Kalyan clashed with the OU-JAC over the latter burning an effigy of their leader.
The actor's effigy was being burnt by the JAC to protest the recent attack on film critic Kathi Mahesh, who had eggs thrown at him by a few unknown individuals, allegedly fans of the actor-turned-politician, for his comments against their hero.
Mahesh, who had been travelling via a cab at the time of the incident, had taken to Twitter to describe his ordeal, and had stated that he would be lodging a police complaint against Kalyan and his fan clubs.
It was in condemnation of this incident that the JAC had reached a decision to burn the actor's effigy.
Upon hearing of the torching, fans of the star reached the spot shouting slogans of "Jai Jana Sena" and "Jai Pawan Kalyan", and clashed with the activists of the JAC.
Police rushed to the spot and took both sections into custody.
